Skin tightening and wrinkle reduction that helps restore youthful skin using high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) technology. This technology targets the deep layers of the skin, causing it to contract and tighten, and stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. It addresses skin issues accurately without surgery or downtime, with visible results from the first session. It helps slow down skin aging and reduces the chances of future wrinkles. First introduced in 2004, it is the only device approved by the US FDA.
Working Principle of Ulthera
The doctor uses the device to emit sound waves beneath the skin, generating heat of 60-70°C that penetrates deep into the skin. The energy points are about 1 mm in size, resembling small fish roe, arranged in a straight line beneath the skin. This method can address issues of sagging skin and wrinkles, tightening the skin without the need for surgery.
The SMAS Layer (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System) is the upper muscle layer located deep within the skin, situated between the subcutaneous fat layer and the muscle layer. It has a depth of 4.5 mm and is the same layer that surgeons target in facelift or tightening surgery procedures.
Ulthera Device with Multiple Depth Levels to address different skin issues in each layer, including the deep SMAS layer:
- 1.5 mm Depth: Reduces fine lines and wrinkles in the upper skin layers, including the epidermis and dermis.
- 3 mm Depth: Tightens the fat layer, stimulates collagen production, and reduces skin laxity.
- 4.5 mm Depth: Targets the SMAS layer, the same layer addressed in surgical facelift procedures.
Results After Ulthera Treatment
The treated skin area will immediately feel lifted and tightened, with wrinkles appearing reduced. The skin will look smoother, pores tightened, and youthful, healthy skin restored. Noticeable changes become more evident over 3-4 months post-treatment, and the tightening effects can last approximately 1-2 years. Results vary depending on the individual and continuous skincare maintenance.
*Results may vary from person to person.
